Travel

Travel is a big part of my life and has been since my first trip out of the country when I was 13 years old. My grandparents took me to El Salvador to visit friends of theirs who lived in San Salvador.

I feel in love with the country, the people and the experience and have been travelling as much as I can whenever I get an opportunity to.

I’ve been all over the US- mainly for work conferences with my mom:

  • Savannah, GA
  • Athens, GA
  • St. Simons Island, GA & Jekyll Island, GA
  • St. Augustine, Fl
  • Tampa, Fl
  • Marco Island, Fl
  • Raleigh, NC
  • Durham, NC
  • Ashville, NC
  • Brevard, SC
  • Roan Mt., TN
  • Chattanooga, TN
  • San Antonio, TX
  • San Diego, CA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Seattle, WA
  • New York City, NY
  • York, PA
  • Baltimore, MD
  • St. Paul, MN
  • Washington D.C
  • Salt Lake City, UT

I’ve also traveled to many places outside of the US:

El Salvador– with my grandparents as mentioned above

Mexico– I’ve been there twice. The first time was when my parents and I went to San Diego, we just crossed the border and had lunch. The second time I went was for a mission trip with my church- Northminster Presbyterian’s Youth Group where we built a house for a family. I raised all my own funds for this trip through writing letters to family and friends.

Honduras– I did a mission trip with my old church Kingswood United Methodist. We worked with Honduras Outreach Inc.– a non denominational christian organization that works with the Honduran peoples of Olancho.

I loved working with the children while I was there!

We had a little school room!

France– A trip with NPC’s youth group to visit places instrumental in the founding of the Presbyterian and Protestant religions. Also stayed in Taize :

Today, the Taizé Community is made up of over a hundred brothers, Catholics and from various Protestant backgrounds, coming from around thirty nations…

Over the years, young adults have been coming to Taizé in ever greater numbers; they come from every continent to take part in weekly meetings. Sisters of Saint Andrew, an international Catholic community founded seven centuries ago, Polish Ursuline Sisters and Sisters of St Vincent de Paul take on some of the tasks involved in welcoming the young people.

Hanging out with my group at Taize- I smile funny sometimes 😉

Switzerland– Stayed with a family of my youth pastor on the same trip to France to visit founding places of Protestantism.

China & Hong Kong– I traveled to China as a part of a group of 40 students with People to People Student Ambassadors. We toured the country and met with many students in China. Our goal was to be introduced to Chinese culture, and to introduce Chinese students to Americans. For this trip I also raised the $6,000 dollars I needed to travel to China, through an intense letter writing campaign.

Just got home from our 27 hour plane ride!

So that’s where I’ve been, but where I plan to go??? EVERYWHERE.

but until then I plan to get around the US as much as I can! 🙂
